Midjourney Is Allegedly Working on a Web Interface

There has been speculation that Midjourney is working on developing their own web interface for their popular image generator tool. Although they have stated against doing any public roadmaps, there has been lots of talk among the higher members of the Discord server about a web interface in development.

Midjourney is currently accessible on the Discord server only, however, you can also add the bot to your own channel if you purchased a membership. Hopefully the rumours of a web interface are true, as it would open up the image generator to a ton more users and hopefully improve the development of the tool. Similarly, Stable Diffusion now has multiple web interfaces it can be used with, such as Automatic1111 and InvokeAI. Although these interfaces were developed by third parties, as Stable Diffusion is open source – if only Midjourney was open source too!

Although Midjourney’s Discord interface is easy to use, many users shy away from using Discord altogether which can limit the amount of people willing to try the image generator out. Many of these people end up seeking out alternatives such as Stable Diffusion and DALL-E 2. A lot of users are worried that other people will see and steal their generated artwork, as the Midjourney server is public. This can be avoided by adding the bot to your own Discord server, or privately messaging it, although as mentioned earlier these options are sadly locked behind the paywall.

We will be sure to post any further developments about the Midjourney web interface on this page. Hopefully we will hear more from the Midjourney about this in the coming months!

What is Midjourney?

Midjourney is an AI image and art generator. The current version (v4) was released on November 5th 2022 and is able to produce artistic and vivid imagery from simple text prompts. These images are generated by using the /imagine prompt on the official Midjourney Discord server, paying members can also add the Midjourney bot to their own Discord servers. There is an img2img function available which allows you to upload an existing image to the Discord server, and use it as a base template for generating a new image (useful for changing the style of an image).

Midjourney Alternatives

If you’re looking for an alternative to Midjourney, BlueWillow is looking to be one of its closest competitors! You can read our comparison between the two AI image generators here. For even more alternatives, feel free to check out our full collection of AI Image Generators.
