EndNote

EndNote is a reference management tool built for researchers, students, and academics who need to organize sources and format citations without the manual hassle. It lets you collect references and PDFs into a searchable library, then inserts properly formatted in-text citations and bibliographies directly into Microsoft Word or Google Docs using its Cite While You Write feature, which updates automatically if you switch citation styles.

The newer EndNote release adds a built-in AI layer called Research Assistant, which can scan an attached PDF and generate a “Key Takeaway” summary of its main points, let you ask follow-up questions about the text in natural language, and translate documents to help with non-English sources. It also includes an AI-assisted Find a Journal tool that suggests suitable publications for your manuscript and a Cite from PDF feature for quickly pulling quotes and citations straight from a PDF into your document.
