Replica is a free, open-source AI prototyping tool built by GitHub Design. Where most AI prototyping tools produce generic-looking mockups, Replica builds from your team’s own design system. Designers set up the components, patterns, and documentation that steer the AI, then anyone on the team, whether a designer, product manager, or engineer, can describe an idea inside the GitHub Copilot app and watch it turn into an interactive prototype they can click through and refine.
To get started, you’ll need GitHub’s Copilot app, then add your team’s prototyping repository, set up the canvas extension, and spin up your first prototype from the starter project. You can work entirely on your own machine, or deploy the optional Replica Hub on your organization’s infrastructure so teammates can try published prototypes and leave comments. The tool is MIT-licensed and free to use and the AI generation runs on a GitHub Copilot plan or your own model provider.
