OpenCode is a free, open source AI coding agent that works wherever you write code, whether that’s the terminal, a desktop app or an IDE extension. Its biggest draw is flexibility: rather than locking you into one provider, it lets you plug in models from Claude, GPT, Gemini and dozens of others, including local models, or simply use the free models that come bundled in.
It can run several agents in parallel on the same project, and you can share a link to any session if you need a second pair of eyes for debugging. If you already pay for GitHub Copilot or ChatGPT Plus/Pro, you can log in with those accounts instead of buying anything extra. OpenCode also offers the Zen version, which is a curated set of models tested specifically for coding agents; though it is a paid service and uses a pay-as-you-go pricing model.
